AI search visibility for Northern Virginia businesses
Get found when your customers ask AI.
Where this starts
The way people look for a business is changing. Instead of typing a few words into Google and scanning ten blue links, more of your customers are asking a full question to ChatGPT, Perplexity, or the AI answer that now sits at the top of a Google search, and taking the one or two names it gives back. If your business is not in that answer, you are not on the list they are choosing from.
AI search visibility is the work of making sure your business shows up in those answers. We do it for small and mid-sized businesses across Northern Virginia and the DC metro area, and it’s some of the highest-leverage marketing work available right now, because most local businesses haven’t touched it yet.
What’s actually changed
Classic search still matters, and it isn’t going away. What’s new is a second layer sitting on top of it. When someone asks an AI assistant for a recommendation, the assistant doesn’t show a page of links. It gives an answer, often naming a business or two, and most people take it at face value. Being one of those named businesses is a different job from ranking tenth on a search page, and it’s one almost nobody in your market is doing on purpose yet.
That gap is the opportunity. The businesses that structure their site so an AI can read it, understand what they do, and trust them enough to recommend them will own the answer for years while their competitors wonder where the calls went.
What we do
There are three layers to being found, and we work across all of them rather than selling you one.
The foundation is search engine optimization (SEO), the familiar work of ranking in Google and Bing. This still matters on its own, and it matters doubly now, because the AI answers are built partly from what the search engines already trust. If Bing can’t find you, ChatGPT usually can’t either.
On top of that is answer engine optimization (AEO), which is structuring your pages so they can be lifted straight into an answer. That means clear questions and short, direct answers, marked up so a machine can pull them cleanly. It’s the reason the service pages we write include a plain question-and-answer section.
The newest layer is generative engine optimization (GEO), the work of getting an AI assistant to name and recommend you, not just link to you. That comes down to three things an AI cares about: whether your site is clear about what you do, whether it looks authoritative, and whether the AI can actually read it. We make all three true.
The local advantage
A small business has a real edge here that it does not have in national search. AI assistants handle location-specific questions well, and there are far fewer businesses competing to be the answer to who does workflow automation for small businesses near Fairfax than there are competing for a generic national term. A focused local presence, structured the right way, can become the default answer for your corner of Northern Virginia faster than it could ever climb a national ranking.
The deliverable
You end up with
- A site that AI assistants can read, understand, and quote from
- A clear picture of where you show up today across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google’s AI answers, and where competitors show up instead
- The technical groundwork, including structured data, clean pages, and AI access, that both classic and AI search depend on
- A short list of the questions your customers actually ask, and a plan to own the answers
Classic rankings can move in weeks. AI citations move slower, because they build on trust signals that accrue over months. We’ll tell you that up front rather than promise an overnight result.
What we can do early is fix the technical basics that block you entirely, then track a named set of questions across the AI assistants so you can watch your visibility change month over month instead of guessing.
- Typical shape
- A focused setup in a few weeks, then tracked monthly
- Good fit when
- Your customers ask AI and your name is not the answer
Why an independent team
We don’t sell ad space, and we don’t make more money if you spend more on ads, so the plan we give you is the one that earns visibility, not the one that runs up a media bill.
You work directly with the people doing the work, and we measure the job by a simple test: when your customers ask, does your business come up.
Common questions
The things people ask before they start.
- How is this different from SEO?
- SEO gets you ranked in the list of search results. This also gets you into the answer an AI gives when someone asks it a question directly. The first is about links, the second is about being named. You want both, and they share a lot of the same groundwork.
- Will this replace the SEO we already do?
- No. It builds on it. Good SEO is part of the foundation, because the AI answers draw on what the search engines already trust. We strengthen that base and add the layers that get you into AI results.
- How do you measure whether it is working?
- We pick the questions your customers actually ask, run them across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google’s AI answers, and log where you appear and where competitors appear instead. You watch that move over time. It’s a concrete measure, not a vague promise.
